William H. Braun Psy.D., CGP
Dr. Braun is a Clinical Psychologist, Psychoanalyst, and Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP) with extensive experience working with adults, children, and adolescents.
Dr. Braun is the former Director of the Argent Program at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, CT, a psychiatric diagnostic assessment program. While at Silver Hill, Dr. Braun led a multidisciplinary team of clinicians specializing in assessing patients with complex and treatment resistant disorders. Most patients had co-occurring conditions, multiple diagnoses that required diagnostic clarity, or complex personality dynamics. Dr. Braun is passionate about assessing complex conditions and helping people to understand themselves in order to live a happier, healthy life.
He is on faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute (NYPSI). At Lenox Hill, Dr. Braun supervises inpatient and outpatient group psychotherapy, and at NYPSI he is the former Director of Psychological Testing and the former Director of Training for the Clinical Psychology Internship and Externship Programs.
Dr. Braun is an active member of the American Group Psychotherapy Association (APGP) and the former Chairman of the Committee on Public Information at the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsA). He has also served as the psychological consultant to Hunter College Elementary and High School and George Jackson Academy where he specialized in working with academically gifted students.
Dr. Braun holds a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the University of Central Florida and remains an avid jazz pianist. He obtained a master’s degree in sport and performance psychology from Boston University, and a doctorate in clinical psychology from The George Washington University. He trained in adult, child, and adolescent psychoanalysis at The New York Psychoanalytic Institute and in modern group analysis at The Center for Group Studies.
